Mate you are terribly underpaid, you SHOULD earn a hell of a lot more money than that with your qualifications. I am not officially trade qualified but my job title is Service Engineer, I am highly skilled in the field I work, I maintain, repair and assist installing tempering lines/furnaces, I have worked with these machines my whole career, just under 20 years now, I just don’t have a licence that is recognized by law. And even though I am not officially ‘trade qualified’, I am still paid $44 per hour, am on salary plus I get commission on the sales of spare parts that I recommend to our customers and time in lieu for any hours overtime I work, honestly i do not work more than 200 days per year at most. I would strongly suggest you find a new job for yourself so you are paid what you are worth, unskilled process workers get more money than you currently do and you have spent years studying to do what you do. Good luck to you mate, I hope you find a much better paying job in the future, you deserve better than that with your qualifications, they are just using you up there mate.

Dear Adam you sound like you have excellent skills. I would be interested to hear more. I am wanting to leave Brisbane and move somewhere else where it’s cheaper to live but I want to ensure there’s work as I have a young family. What city do you work in? I am trying to find a good balance as my wife is very ill and I’m quite underpaid for what I do and my skills. I became trade qualified in 2010 and hold a cert IV in Engineering Mechanical trade. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Adam and have a good one.

    Hi,
I am degree qualified engineer with overseas experience of 5 years. This is going to be my first job in Australia. I was Interviewed for a service engineer position in Perth and the company called me the next day offering me a position for service technician. They are offering me $24/ hour and I’m not sure if Im about to be underpaid. A career agent told me the market rate is about 30 to 40 an hour depending of its FIFO. This position is not FIFO but they ofder 100 a day fot sites outside the city. Any advise?

connor aldous yes it is worth coming to aus . i live in perth work as a fitter and make 40 an hour full time. The pay can very but u should be able to get 35 – 36 full time easy and can go up to over 50 and hour if your really lucky. They have alot of work in the mines that u can easly get on for about 45 an hr but that is flat rate and they dont pay u to fly so realy by then end of ur 5 or 6 days its more like 38 if u include flying as work. u missed out only 2 years ago it was 50 to 60 and 10 stand down pay on night shift also paid travel. u get paid more in perth now so only go to the mines if u really need to.

Find a new job because you are being used by your boss. I work fly in fly out getting around $42-$58 a hour, most of the time it $45-$47 but you need “real” trade paper to get on site.
In Perth I get around $38-$42 a hour
