Australia's best-paid workers are those in the mining industry, where ordinary earnings average A$100,823 a year.

Next in the wages pecking order are finance and insurance workers who average A$73,991 per annum.

Manufacturing sector employees earn an average of $54,824 per annum and construction sector workers earn $59,327 per annum.

Full-time workers in the retail sector earn A$44,382 on average.

The lowest wages are found in the accommodation, restaurant and cafe sector where full-time workers earn just A$43,201 on average.

Workers in the Capital Territory (Canberra) are Australia's highest paid workers with an average of A$68,978 per annum, followed by Western Australia (A$66,404) and New South Wales (A$59,706).

Tasmania has Australia's lowest average full-time wage, of A$52,842 per annum.
