Default Questions about moving to Australia

hi all
i have just registered onto this site and am hoping to get some information from any or all of you!
i am currently working in HR, and completing my Certificate in Personnel Practise through the CIPD in the UK
i have read that Oz are needing skilled people in the HR sector. is this correct? if this is the case, how would you think the best way to go about seeing if Oz would be the right move?
as previously stated all ideas and thoughts welcome!
many thanks

Hello and welcome,

There's going to be a revision of the points system this year and until then it is more difficult to get your general skills visa processed (within 2-3 years) unless you have employer / state sponsorship or are on the critical skills list.

Priority processing is here http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...processing.pdf It's best to mke sure that as well as getting enough points, you are in the top categories so your application is not delayed.

The DIAC website has the current points test for a general skills visa http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...-applicant.htm. You can use it to check if you qualify.

Hello Charlotte,

Have you ever been to Australia before? If not perhaps plan for a visit to see if you like it or if it really suits the lifestyle you are hopeing for. I've travelled to some lovely places around the country and found staying at the YHA a great experience (and in New Zealand too). Fellow travellers meet, share food and outings together, the rooms are neat and affordable. Some have a pool too (if you like swimming). Maybe you could go for a permanent visa once youv'e settled down and decided for yourself this is the place for you! Just an idea.

Hi Charlie,

As Richard said DIAC is the place to look for a visa. You can also check there that you have the qualifications and skills required to get a work visa. A holiday in Australia is a good idea but not always practical. My advice would be to read as much info as you can as you can find out most things on the web these days.
