best saving rates in Australia?

Hi again,

What are the interest rates like for savers in Australia at the moment? In the UK instant access accounts are struggling to offer much more than 2 - 3 % which is well below inflation. Any good deals out there or any tax-free ways to save?

Thanks for any replies,

If you were to open an esaver with Westpac, you could expect 4.25 percent, which is better than the UK I expect. We pay more than you for mortgages though. Australia looks like it has better savings rates, but it's not an enormous difference. Nothing like the 10 percent that you could get one upon a time. The headline saving rate beats inflation (3.5 percent) but by the time you've paid tax, inflations still going to get the better of you.
