How long can I stay in Australia without a visa?

Hi there,

I am finishing my degree next year and a group of us want to travel over to Australia and New Zealand next year. I have a UK passport, some of my friends are American and Canadian. How long can we stay in Australia without a visa? We don't want to work. We just want to tour around and have lots of fun. Thanks

Hello,

To stay in Australia you'll need a visa of some kind. The cheapest one to get would be an ETA(visitor) or Evisitor visa which you can obtain online and costs $20. You are allowed to stay in Australia for up to 3 months on this visa.

If you want to stay longer then you will need to apply for a Tourist Visa. If granted, this visa will allow you either a single or multiple entry to Australia for a stay period of up to three, six or 12 months.

Full visa options are on the DIAC website. http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/visa-options.htm

Unless you are an Australian citizen, you will need a visa. :)

Good advice Pam, the DIAC website is the place to check this out for sure. I have friends over from the USA this summer and they are staying four months, planning to tour around in February.

I think they are on a tourist visa and it all worked out fine for them.:)
