Has anybody shipped a caravan to Australia or had quotes on it? Our one is 21ft and in great condition so I'll be sad to sell it. We were wondering whether to ship it and fill it with as much stuff as possible, but not had a quote yet, just wondering if its worthwhile?

Camping is a great pastime in Aus and I would definitely look into bringing your caravan. I think if you have owned your caravan for over 12 months the rules are similar to importing a car and there are no taxes to pay. I don't know the price of shipping but removal companies will give you a price. It's also worth noting that caravans are very expensive over here – check out the prices on Ebay for example – it may well be worth your while to pay to have it shipped – especially if you are allowed to fill it.

Are you allowed to fill a caravan with stuff? Is it cheaper to ship than to buy in Australia? If so I can just about see a business opportunity for caravan importing.

As a business there are import taxes and GST to pay :(

Caravans are expensive here - remember that those in the UK are made for a different climate and you may want to purchase fly screens and a portable air-conditioning system for your caravan. So there may be extra costs but I still think it's worth checking out.

There is so much to see and do here, you could use a caravan every weekend here. So if you can afford the shipping and it's in good condition. then I would go for it.

I've never fancied caravanning on Britain's crowded roads where caravans always seem to have a queue of angry drivers behind them trying to get past. I don't fancy that sort of stress on holiday. I think it would be great to get out on on those long, straight, empty Aussie roads you see going through the deserts.
