Hello,

Saw some interesting facts about Adelaide in the paper today and thought I would share:

SUBURBS WITH THE MOST...

> BIRTHS:
ELIZABETH: 488 babies born in 2008 with a fertility rate of 2.59. Adelaide average is 466 babies with a fertility rate of 2.14 per cent.

> PRIMARY SCHOOL-AGED STUDENTS:
SMITHFIELD: 13 per cent of the residents are primary-school aged. Adelaide average is nine per cent

> SECONDARY SCHOOL- AGED STUDENTS:
WYNN VALE: Nine per cent of residents are high-school aged. Adelaide average is six per cent.

> UNIVERSITY STUDENTS:
NORTH ADELAIDE: 22 per cent of the population are uni students, compared to the four per cent Adelaide average.

> MARRIED COUPLES:
ANGLE VALE: 64 per cent of the population are married. The Adelaide-wide average is 48 per cent.

> DIVORCED:
PORT ADELAIDE: There are 558 divorcees living in Port Adelaide, 14 per cent of the population. This compares to the nine per cent of divorcees who live in other suburbs.

> RETIREES (aged between 60 and 64)
NOVAR GARDENS: Nine per cent of the population are in this age group. Adelaide average is five per cent.

> DEATHS:
UNLEY: There were 299 deaths recorded in Unley in 2008, compared to the Adelaide average of 191.

UNLEY: There were 299 deaths recorded in Unley in 2008, compared to the Adelaide average of 191.


I always wonder when I see statistics like this ----Why?

Is it because Unley is a particularly unhealthy place to live, and anyone with any sense would be packing their bags --- or is it just because it has a very high percentage of old people?
