We are considering a move from the US to Mackay and I have heard freaky things about huge spiders in Australia. Is this true? I HATE spiders.:(
By the way I am new to the forums and thank you in advance for all your help.

MacKay in Queesnland do not have freaky things happening on a daily basis. Australia does have spiders, some poisonous, most not. People getting bit by a poisonous spider is news as not many people have this happen to them. Hospitals have remedies and we have a flying doctor service too.
Basically, if you leave them alone they will leave you alone.
The largest spider here, we call a 'daddy long legs' and is harmless. It may look creepy to someone seeing it for the first time and it's real name is tarantular. In Oz, tarantulas are not deadly.

Hello,
I agree with Martha that spiders will leave you alone as most are non-agressive. But if you don't like big spiders you may want to have your house sprayed to deter them and live in town.
For example:
The cost of professional pest control of spiders - using professional strength low hazard (non-solvent) Permethrin based insecticides - actual cost depends on spider species - size of property - extent of infestation - ease of access - sub-floor area - roof void - other obvious or likely nesting sites.
Expect to pay between $150 to $200 for medium size residential premises. Commercial and manufacturing premises are quoted upon inspection. Highly problematic infestations over wide area may be more expensive.

Mackay's having problems with jellyfish at the moment...
The central Queensland town of Mackay is in the grip of a box jellyfish invasion with the deadly creatures being dragged from the popular harbour beach in record numbers and hundreds more floating just offshore waiting for the right conditions to move in.

Thank you for your replies. I think my family likes torturing me about moving and that is the only ground they have to stand on is there are "creepy" things like spiders, snakes etc... in Aus. We have rattlesnakes and tarantulas in Utah so what do I have to lose huh?:)

Sounds a bargain at that price but I supose it has to be done once a year.

I honestly think I would pay just about ANYTHING for the peace of mind.
