Toll roads in Queensland

Hi,

I've heard that there are toll roads in Queensland and I don't have any idea of how the system works and what kind of charges to expect. We're looking to live in Brisbane or just outside, possibly The Gap and my hubby will have a commute (probably drive) to the city centre each day. Can anyone advise about the toll road system?

Thanks for your help,

Ruth

This map shows all the motorways: http://www.qldmotorways.com.au/_CMSImages/queenslandmotorways/pdfs/RoadNetworkMap.pdf

The cheapest way to travel is with a go viatag. You simply attach the small go viatag to the inside of your vehicle's windscreen. As your vehicle travels under the toll point the go viatag will beep once, which means that the toll has been deducted from your account.

Here's how to get one: https://www.govia.com.au/via/home/ There's also a handy trip planner which will calculate the cost of a car journey for you.

Hi Ruth,

The only toll roads in Queensland at present are on the Gateway Bridge and the Logan Motorway. The others are currently toll free. The go viatag is good value even if you use the motorways occasionally because there is no joining fee and no inactivity fee. There is a minimum initial payment of $25 and then top ups when your balance drops to $15 to be made in multiples of $25.

Thanks for your help. Glad most of the roads are toll free. It doesn't look as though we will be using the toll roads much at all.:)

Tolls in Queensland are increasing especially for light commercial vehicles and tradies are expected to be hit hard by this. If you own a light commercial vehicle, it'll be nearly $12 for a return trip over the Gateway. Ouch !!
