Good sunglasses

Hi,
Can anyone advise on a good pair of sunglasses to purchase for the Australian sun? I normally buy, as cheap a pair as I can as I end up sitting on them or losing them - but as I’m soon to be moving to a stronger sun is there any particular feature I should be looking for? How much does an average pair of sunglasses cost in Aus?
Thanks, Scotty.

You needn't pay a lot of money for sunglasses- plenty of choice at the cheaper end - $20 - $50. Just make sure that you purchase from a reputable source and the sunglasses are tagged with UVA/ UVB protection. The label should state AS/NZS 1067:2003 or EPF 10.

If you want to be extra careful and protect your eyes fully, think about getting 'wrap around' sunnies that cover the side of your eyes as well as the front. Have a look here for Aus prices http://www.justsunnies.com.au

The cancer council of Australia has a variety of ultra protective eyewear as we are hard hit by skin cancers and U.V rays. A visit to one of these shops (in major cities) would be a good place to start. If the fashion is too way out, then at least get some good advice from the staff. That's their job to help prevent illness in this area, so they will be glad to bend your ear.

If you are driving, make sure that colours are not too distorted with dark tints - some sunglasses are not suitable for driving.

I recommend that you invest in a good quality pair as you will be wearing them a lot and I find that cheap sunglasses give me a headache after a while.

I agree - make sure you get a pair that you are comfortable with. Plenty of choice here!!
