Hi,

Can anyone advise on the wages that are paid to qualified experienced chefs in Australia, particularly in Melbourne?

There are a few websites that give out wage information but I'm not sure how up to date they are. $50,000 - $60,000 a year is what they are indicating for a chef but it will be variable depending on your experience and what kind of work you are doing and where about in Australia you are working.

http://content.mycareer.com.au/salar...-tourism/chef/ for example.

If you want more detailed wage info, I suggest that you have a look at some job adverts and get an idea of the wages paid from them. Salary isn't always advertised though in the first instance.

The omission of salary from job ads can be a trial, but it's not just in Australia you get this problem. It would save everyone time and effort if employers gave at least an indicative range. If they're hoping to negotiate with you, to get you at the lowest possible remuneration, they think they're showing their hand too early if they put salary or a salary range in the job ad. $60,000 is £40,000, which seems good on the face of it. But if you're looking to buy in a plush pad in Sydney, it won't get you far these days.
