Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea of a monthly budget for a family of 4 to live in the Newcastle area of NSW? I really want an idea about fairly basic living, nothing fancy, just an idea of what kind on monthly bills to expect. When we first arrive we will be living on one wage and I want to make sure that we can get by OK. We want to buy a home fairly quickly but will need to rent for the first 6 months or so.

The main cost will be rent which I would budget as $350 - $500 per week for a 3 bed home.

http://www.realestate.com.au will give you an idea of what is available. Rentals can be in great demand so make sure that you have good references.
