Road Rules Perth

Hi,

I'm planning a holiday next year with my family in Perth and will be hiring a car and going touring around the area. I don't want to get caught out when driving. Are there any strange road rules that I should be aware of and what are the speed limits on the roads?
Cheers,

Andrew.

Main thing if you are not used to it, is to drive on the left side. Other than that I don't see there being any special rules that would catch you out.

Speed limits are are:

Speed Limits in Western Australia:

40 km per hour speed limit applies around schools at the start & end of the school day.
50 km per hour speed limit applies in most suburban streets in towns & cities.
60 km per hour speed limit on major metropolitan arterial roads.
70 or 80km per hour on dual carriageways.
100 0r 110 km speed limit applies on most open roads and freeways.

Speeding is very much frowned upon in WA and there are well-hidden cameras that are frequently moved to catch speeding traffic. Fines start at $75 and you will also get demerit points on your driving licence.

Road rules for WA are all detailed in a 'drive safe' book that you can download on the gov website: http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/learnerdrivers/1464.asp

It's split into sections and there is a 'major road rules' part http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/learnerdrivers/1464.asp. All quite srtaightforward really, but it's always good to take a refresher course!!:)
