Hi All,
Can anyone tell me how much it would cost to furnish a home in Australia? I'm not keen on taking all of out furniture with us and would like an idea of how much it would roughly cost to furnish a house from scratch. Nothing fancy, but new.
Thanks for your help.

I recommend you have a look at supermarket.com for prices. They have furniture shops all over Australia with reasonable prices and a large selection.
You can also purchase package deals for lounge and dining and bedroon suites.

My fiance works at a furniture hire place that can furnish your whole home for you. They deliver it, set it all up and when you get your own furniture or you just don't want it any more they come pick it up.
They have different packages from basic to absolute luxe.
They have warehouses in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. They also have show rooms of ex-rental furniture in Victoria and Queensland.
I just asked my fiance how much basic packages cost and he just said it depends on what your budget is.
So if you want to come to Australia first and then look for furniture, hiring is a good option.
The website is here Guests Furniture Hire (http://www.guestsfurniturehire.com.au/)
Hope this helps!

I have to agree with your choice for new furniture rather than second hand. And I can recommend "fantastic furniture" stores as I have bought from them and am 100% satisfied. Affordable, reliable service and products are modern.
I must admit the rental is not a bad idea in the mean time though.

Hello again, if you're on a tight budget you may also find second hand appliances in Salvos or Vinnies. We bought our dining table @ vinnies for only $50 and it still looks nice :)

I just realised my comment looked a bit like a sales pitch. It's not by the way, lol. Just trying to help :)

Sometimes the contracts can be for a year say so you need to watch for that. I had a friend who bought outdoor furniture table/ chairs and used then indoors for a while. They also managed to make do by borrowing from friends & relatives until the container arrived with all their stuff.
