Regarding a visa, you should be OK as long as you are a NZ citizen of good health and character. There is a fact sheet that explains the rules and regs:
..the Special Category Visa (SCV) was introduced for New Zealand citizens. In practical terms, there was no change to procedures for New Zealand citizens wanting to come to Australia. They continue to need only a valid New Zealand passport to travel to Australia and in most cases, do not need to seek a visa before travelling.
At the time of presenting their passports for immigration clearance they are considered to have applied for a visa and, subject to health or character considerations, will automatically receive an SCV which is recorded electronically.
Their New Zealand passports are stamped, showing the date of arrival in Australia. This is the only evidence provided or necessary to show they are holders of an SCV.

The New Zealand minimum wage is NZ$12.50/hr, which is AUD$10/hr. So, before tax, you're 40% better off earning minimum wage in Australia than New Zealand.
Then look at tax. On the minimum wage you'll pay AUD$3,341 income tax a year in Australia.
On the NZ minimum wage, you'll pay NZ$4307.00 income tax.
So after tax, you're over 50% better off in Australia on minimum wage.
(Sorry to say, but I'm sure I read some Aussie politicians complaining about Kiwis arriving to do minimum wage jobs.)

arrr. the days of my youth working in a fast food chain..... :) before I moved read rooster were paying me $10 per hour as a kitchen hand but I was under sixteen so they did not have to pay me very much.
Also as far as tax goes, I have no idea I don't think I paid any because I earned under the threshold.

The Australian miniumum wage looks good. In the UK it's £5.80 = $10.22 per hour, if you're 22 or older.
Looks like the Australian minimum wage is currently 40 per cent higher than the British one.
