Australian Bank Account Numbers Format

Later this month I'll probably have to transfer money to a bank account in Australia. Does anyone know what format Australian bank account numbers have. I ask this because I did a transfer from HBOS to an American bank a few months ago and there was all sorts of trouble over the way the numbers were formatted.

HSBC has a six digit BSB number followed by a nine digit account number. I think this is fairly standard throughout Australia.

If you are transferring money between countries from HSBC in Australia you will need to provide the destination bank in the format of (1) a swift/bankcode/BIC followed by (2) the bank account number /IBAN

Here's an example of the form

hi there
ANZ format is 6 digits for BSB number (bank number and branch number)
and another 9 digits for account number

hope this helps :)
