Online grocery shopping

There is a bit of an internet grocery war at the moment between Coles, bananablue and groceries4U in Adelaide.

Bananablue have had their website hacked and were down for a day - now fixed- and are selling bread at 50c a loaf as a comeback special. Coles and bananablue both have good, modern, navigable websites. Groceries4U have a very antiquated website which I don't find helpful at all. There are no pictures to reassure you that you are buying the correct product.

Wow. I've lived in Adelaide for 4 years and I've never heard of bananablue.
Time to give them a try while they have good specials on..

First delivery arrived today. I'm recommending bananablue to all in Adelaide. Delivery was on time and groceries all good quality.:)

This year, Perth (and metro areas) has recently started having Coles Online shopping as well. There was never before. Very handy indeed.

Coles have also recently started online shoppping in Adelaide, but I am sticking with bananablue as they have a minimum order of just $20, which suits me better.

Do they all offer free delivery if you order over a certain amount? We use Sainsbury's in the UK. You need to order over £100 worth to get free delivery.

In Brisbane, Coles offers 2 hour delivery slots for between $10.00 - $13.00 depending on the day you choose and 3 hour delivery slots for between $5.00 - $9.00. No free delivery.:(

I'd rather just go to the local shop and buy food myself. That way I can see what I buy first hand before paying and I can see similar items too. Also, buying locally avoids the delivery charges :)

You know, in principle I absolutely agree with you. My ideal food shopping experience would be to go to some idealised French market each day and be able buy my bread, fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, cream cakes, etc completely fresh, touching and smelling before I buy.

Most times, though, I've got a lot of other things to do. Besides which, in the days before you could shop for groceries online, traipsing round supermarkets was always near the top of my "things I need to do but I'd rather avoid" list. So I shop for groceries online, imagining I'm in my mythical French market. :D

I can't wait for online grocery shopping to come to Hobart. Currently none of the big stores offer it in Tasmania.

Woolies has put their grocery prices online making it easier to compare costs:

For the first time shoppers can compare grocery prices at their computer after Woolworths put the cost of 5000 items online.
