Sad, I know, but I love my Sky+ in the UK. We switched to it a few months back and now I don't know how we ever lived without the live pause, rewind, etc, etc. :o

Now I know that Mr Rupert Murdoch owns Sky in the UK and he orignally hails from Australia. So I wonder, is Sky TV available in Australia? Does it have Sky+ type facilities? Does it have similar channels?

If it isn't, is there an equivalent Australian service to Sky+?

Yes there is. The equivalent to Sky in Australia is Foxtel. I would say that Foxtel have more expensive packages then SKY. Foxtel have an IQ box which does the same as the SKY+ box – with Foxtel IQ you can 'pause' the live action at any time and then continue watching by unpausing or fast forward. You can also record, rewind, forward too.

The IQ box cost me about $100 to get it installed plus an extra $10 a month.

We pay $62 a month which is the basic package plus two options (we chose my playtime- for kids- and my escape – comedy, sci-fi, uk TV )

Here’s a link to their website http://www.foxtel.com.au

Thanks quincy. I'll have a look through the different Foxtel channels. As you say, it does seem a bit more expensive for Foxtel than Sky.

We only signed up for Sky a few months ago. Installation was meant to be £99 but we found it was cut to £79 online. As I was looking at the options online, a chatbox from Sky appeared on my computer screen asking if I wanted to ask any questions. I did and so I asked a question to an online operator who then cut the installation price to £49 - which is about the same as the $100 you mention.

The operator actually pursuaded us to take the SKY+ Box (which we hadn't originally wanted and now would badly miss :o) at no extra cost but the equivalent option seems to be $10 a month from Foxtel.

Do you (or does anyone) know if Foxtel do special offers like Sky?

For those who have to have Sky they now have online options and you can get a monthly Sky Go ticket for £15. I've not checked the rules though to see if you can be in Australia to qualify for this. Pricy too though.
