Cheap Internal Flights

Hi,

Is it possible to get really cheap internal flights between Australian cities/towns? Are there any airlines similar to Ryanair/Easyjet that operate in Australia? I'm asking because I want to know if it's cheap to fly from one place to another in Australia.

Jetstar is a budget airline that you could try. At the moment it has some heavily discounted flights. For example, it’s offering Sydney to Adelaide for $99 one way and Sydney to Brisbane for $69 one way. These are 'light' fares with only carry on baggage. You can pay more for the full baggage allowance.

Of course, you could not rely on these fares all the time, but if you are prepared to wait for bargains then they do come along and you will be able to travel quite cheaply around Australia.

For an even cheaper experience, in more ways than one, try Tiger Airways.

Tiger RAW Domestic Fares (from Sydney) - fully inclusive, one-way, hand baggage only, payment by Australian-issued Mastercard Debit card only

Melbourne from A$39*
Adelaide from A$39*

*This "Tiger Raw" fare is the lowest available fare from Tiger Airways Australia and is fully inclusive of all taxes and charges

They have a similar reputation to Ryanair for customer service.

For late flights they rival Jetstar for the title of worst in Australia.

One third of Jetstar flights run late

Government figures released today show about 30 per cent of Jetstar flights were late in June, a deterioration on the prior month when about 23 per cent of planes were delayed.

Of the four main carriers in Australia, Qantas had the best on-time performance in June with just 15 per cent of flights late. Virgin Blue had about 17 per cent flights late while the Singapore Airlines-backed carrier Tiger Airways had 21 per cent delayed.

Jetstar also had the highest percentage of cancellations for June 2009 at 2.2 per cent.

Tiger was the worst performer of the big four in May when more than 27 per cent of its flights were late. The Ryanair wannabe of south-east Asia this month began flights between Sydney and Melbourne, in its first direct challenge to the dominance of Qantas and Virgin...........

Tiger airways has a big sale on at the moment - worth a look if you are planing a trip this autumn or winter. http://www.tigerairways.com/au/en/real_deals.php Bit of a price war developing between Tiger and Jetstar - can only mean cheaper fares for us and more sales!!
