Brisbane – A Quick Profile

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, Australia’s sunshine state.

It has a population of around one and three-quarter million people.

Around 6% of Brisbane’s population comes from Asian countries and 0.4% come from the Middle East or North Africa. Aboriginal Australians represent 1% of Brisbane’s population.

Despite having well over one million inhabitants, Brisbane is quieter than the larger cities of Sydney and Melbourne.

Most migrants find Brisbane is a friendly place to settle, particularly compared with Sydney where people sometimes seem to have less time for one another.

Unlike Austrlia’s other big cities, Brisbane is not situated on the coast. The famous Gold and Sunshine Coasts are about 1 hour away from the city.
